1. RARLab Visit the website and download an evaluation version of WinRAR.Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to installWinRAR on your computer. Restart the computer if prompted.
2. Click "Start," then "Computer." Go to the file or folder that you want to archive and from which you want to create a self-extracting RAR file.
3. Right-click the file or folder, then click "Add to Archive" on the pop-up menu.
4. Enter a descriptive file name into the "Archive name" text box. Click the "Browse" button, then select the folder in which you want to save the archive file.
5. Enable the "RAR" option and select a compression level in the "Compression method" drop-down box. The default setting of "Normal" is appropriate for most files types and extracts reasonably fast. If you want to make the archive as small as possible, click and select the "Best" option. If you want the file or folder to extract quickly when you execute it, select the "Fastest" option. "Best" provides maximum compression but opens slowly. "Fastest" opens much faster but does not shrink the size of the archived files or folders very much. Unless you need to use a specific compression method, "Normal" is the best option in most cases.
6. Click and enable the "Create SFX archive" option. Click the "Test archived files" option box.
7. Click the "OK" button. WinRAR creates the RAR archive with an EXE file extension in the folder you selected. WinRAR also tests the archive to ensure no errors occurred during the compression and creation phase. If you click on the archived file, it launches an extractor window and prompts you for a folder in which to save the uncompressed files or folders.
